Matthew McConaughey, Snoop Dogg, Isla Fisher, Zac Efron, Jimmy Buffett, and Harmony Korine worked together in the latest McConaughey-fronted film, The Beach Bum, and according to the Interstellar alum, it was a great time for everyone. The film revolves around the story of a rebellious stoner who missions to Florida.

Reportedly, the set of the movie featured as much partying and fun as the plot-line. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Matthew McConaughey said to journalists that it was a “long boozy, stony note that was very musical.”

Regarding the merits of his character, Matthew said there is “no rhyme and no reason.” As for how he figured out how to characterize Moondog, the name of the actor’s character, the Oscar-winner said he had to do a lot of introspection.

According to the Dazed and Confused alum, he simply turns up and turns down certain aspects of his character, notably, his level of conscientiousness as well as his carelessness. How he manages to personify carelessness through a crisis, is by going back to a time in his life where he didn’t have any problems.

His co-stars had a great time on set too. Isla Fisher claims that during an improv one day, Matthew started sucking on her toes. She said, “that was up there with one of the more amusing and bizarre moments.”

Even though there were weird moments, she was happy to play in the movie because of the director’s prior films, notably, Spring Breakers. “I’ve always wanted to work with Harmony Korine,” the actress remarked, adding that she loves that Harmony doesn’t apologize when it comes to the writing of his characters.

The film has appearances from other big names like Jonah Hill and Martin Lawrence, as well as a soundtrack featuring Snoop Dogg as well as Jimmy Buffet, who also put on a performance. Jimmy acts as himself in the movie.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Buffet said he always knew about Snoop, and that he was a “huge admirer of him.” Buffet admitted there was a script in the movie, but a lot of it was improv, however, Harmony knew when and how to “reel them in.”
