A 162-year-old St Kilda house containing a crystal chandelier from the Cotswolds, wine cellar and velvet-lined wall is awaiting a new owner to impress with its grand period character and features.
The Georgian-style gem at 5 Dalgety St will be auctioned later this month with a $4m-$4.4m price guide.
Built in 1860, the renovated home has towering ceilings, original Baltic Pine floors and a dining room that can accommodate a 14-seater dining table.

Marshall White Port Phillip director Kaine Lanyon said the “iconic” home’s owners did the majority of renovations after moving in 18 years ago, but upgraded the marble and copper-surfaced kitchen about five years ago.
“The personality the vendors have put into the home is wonderful, there are lots of beautiful terrace houses in Port Phillip, but this one is just set apart by the renovation, how they have retained the period character and it’s very classy,” Mr Lanyon said.
“I think it would be almost without peer in St Kilda as a wide terrace and absolutely one of the most impressive homes in St Kilda to come onto the market in the past 25 years.”
He said the house’s front measured about 9m wide, whereas most of the area’s terraces were 5m to 6m wide.
There is enough space in the basement’s bluestone-lined cedar wine cellar to store more than 800 bottles.
A meal area opens to an internal courtyard and the living room is warmed by a gas log fireplace set into a velvet-covered wall.
The owners, who are downsizing, purchased the showpiece crystal chandelier from the Cotswolds in central southwest England and also installed vintage Italian light fixtures throughout the house.
The triple-car garage can be accessed via the home’s second street frontage on Dalgety Lane and manicured gardens, set on the 415sq m block, complete the package.
Mr Lanyon said buyers from regional Victoria and Melbourne’s eastern, northern and bayside suburbs had inquired about the property.
“Perhaps not surprisingly given the character, given how unique and special it is, it’s had a lot of interest,” he added.
The auction will be held September 10.
